Facing the Islamic State
From 2014 to 2018, the war on the Islamic State impacted the Middle East profoundly. This project homed in on the war’s effects in Syria and Iraq, tracing in particular how the struggle against Da’esh prompted both the reinvention of the Syrian and Iraqi states and shifts in the terms of allowable political expression.
