María Teresa Martínez Trujillo
María Teresa holds a master's degree and a PhD in Political Science from the Institute of Political Studies of Paris (Sciences Po, Paris). She also has a degree in Political Science from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and studied Political Science and Public Administration at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM-FES Acatlán).
Since 2020, she has been a professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Tecnológico de Monterrey. She is an associate researcher at the Centre de Recherches Internationales (CERI) at Sciences Po, Paris.
With more than 20 years of experience, her academic and applied research focuses on understanding political-criminal configurations, protection mechanisms implemented in violent and criminal environments, extortion schemes, governmental and non-governmental policing practices, political violence, the intersection between violence and migration, and the role of women in violent configurations, particularly in Mexico.
She has collaborated with the Security Program of México Evalúa and the National Citizen Observatory.
Always research-oriented, María Teresa has been a public servant, collaborating with the Federal Government in the Presidency of the Republic (2010-2011) and the Ministry of the Interior (2011-2012). In addition, she was a senior researcher at the Supreme Court (2009-2010). In her early years, she collaborated in the survey research department of the Reforma newspaper (2004-2008).
