Deborah Bonello

Deborah Bonello is an accomplished journalist and investigator based in Mexico City with 12 years of experience in the region.

She has investigated organized crime markets and structures in all of the region's most troubled nations, including Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Venezuela. She has investigated and documented trends such on the growth of organized crime under Venezuela's 'socialist' regime and the trafficking of wood and wildlife in the region.

Most recently, she was the Project Manager on InSight Crime's investigation into extortion in Central America, as well as the foundation's senior researcher on a project about Mexico's role in the fentanyl business for the Wilson Center. She has also reported for major media outlets on these issues.

With over 20 years of experience in journalism, she is a professional videographer and producer as well as writer, and has worked in shooting, producing and editing video pieces for major international media outlets including the BBC and the Financial Times.
