Gabriel Tamariz

Gabriel Tamariz is a political ecologist from Mexico, where he studies the geographies of rural violence and its interactions with smallholder agrobiodiversity. He holds a master’s degree in environmental studies from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (ICTA-UAB), and is currently a PhD candidate at Penn State, a visiting scholar at the Center of Research on Social Anthropology (CIESAS) in Oaxaca, and a lecturer at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Gabriel’s dissertation analyzes the ways illegal crop production in Oaxaca has become part and interacts with peasant livelihoods and landscapes. He is using mixed methods that include fieldwork, statistical analysis, and remote sensing with satellite imagery.
